My name is Sven-Olav Paavel (born 21 June 1971, Tallinn, Estonia). I have been working as a programmer for about 12 years. Although I have used several programming languages in my career, I think one of them have influenced my mind significantly—Java. The majority of my time has been spent working with Java in financial sector. I'm also Sun Certified Java Programmer, having SCJP 1.4 & 5, SCWCD and SCBCD certifications. My resume is online in case you are interested in hiring me.
I'm a software developer with a deep interest in UI design. About three years ago I got involved with Adobe Flex and the concept of "Rich Internet Application", building enterprise-level apps in Flex.
I'm holding Master Degree in Informatics from Tallinn University (Multimedia and Learning Systems). I'm interested in the concept of metacognition in learning theory. Talking about the academic past, I have also BA in Philosophy at Univerity of Tartu.
In pre-internet days (for me, that means the mid 90's), I have also worked as a journalist. My first real job was as a copywriter in an advertising company. It is no secret that I'm a big Apple fan. I still remember the first computer I even used at all: it was a Macintosh Classic 1984 delivered to school by some humanitarian aid program. My first own Mac was a Power Mac 9500.
I have two children age 4 & 8. In free time I'm reading books. If you ask me what is my favorite book, the first answer is Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis.
